About Experian
Experian®
originated in the UK, when a former parent company, GUS, established
CCN in 1980. It began as in internal department providing marketing
information and credit checking to various parts of the GUS group.
Eventually, CCN developed the databases, systems and analytical skills
to support a wide range of consumer lending, and thus became the leading
credit bureau in the UK.
CCN expanded into the U.S. in 1986, when it acquired Management Decision
Systems. This acquisition effectively put CCN into Canada and Australia
as well as the U.S. Then, in 1996, GUS began increasing its presence
in the U.S. with the acquisition of several other credit and direct
marketing companies.
To date, CCC and GUS, now operating under the Experian name, have
acquired over 50 such companies at a cost of over $4 billion. The
company now supports clients in more than 65 countries and employs
more than 15,500 people.
In 2003, Experian began a partnership with the myFICO division of
Fair Isaac and began providing credit reports to cosumers using the
FICO scoring system. These reports were available until February 14,
2009, when Experian and Fair Isaac failed to reach an agreement to
continue the partnership.
